Better is the sight of the eyes than the wandering of desire; this also is vanity and a chasing after wind.
Ecclesiastes 6:9 (NRSV)
So much of life seems to be about waiting for or anticipating what is next. What we hope for. Something better.
Better than this. More.
More money. More contentment. More peace. More happiness. More security.
Wandering desires.
Practicing gratitude has become popular in recent years as though somehow a new thing. Those who do this practice well, authentically, often touch on the deeper peace of presence. Living in the moment.
Or as the wise king once wrote, seeing what is right before their eyes rather than dwelling on wandering desires.
There is much chasing after the wind in the wise kings eyes.
I do not want to chase wind. So I shall stand still and open my eyes to take in as much as I can of this current moment.
Praise be to the Creator of all who loves with abandon.
